Bert joined the staff in June 2004 and comes to us from Holy Covenant UMC in the Houston Northwest District. He has served several churches in the Texas Conference including Elysian Fields and Crossroads UMC in the Longview District, Winona in the Tyler District, Eustace and Payne Springs in the Palestine District, Mt. Pleasant St. Andrews in the Texarkana District, Fairfield and Palestine in the Palestine District. Bert graduated from East Texas State University and Perkins School of Theology at SMU.

Charles is an ordained deacon with certification in Church Business Administration. He has a degree in accounting and has been serving his call to ministry in church administration since 1980. His major responsibility is financial and all areas of administration which include building, grounds and equipment. Charles also assists in Worship and other pastoral duties.

Program Staff
Dr. Joanna Elliott WhitsettOrganist |

Joanna joined the Moody staff in November, 2006. She earned a Doctoral of Musical Arts in Organ Performance from University of Houston. Joanna accompanies two children’s choirs and the sanctuary choir. She also plays organ and piano for the 8:30am and 11am services.
Joanna Elliott Whitsett D.M.A. is a recitalist of international stature, and has appeared in recital in important churches and cathedrals throughout the U.S and Europe. She began her organ studies under Philip Baker of Dallas, TX, and as a young recitalist was named the winner of the TMTA (Texas Music Teachers Association) Post-Graduate Organ Competition, Regional finalist in the American Guild of Organists Young Organists Competition, and National Finalist in the MTNA Collegiate Organ Competition. She is the recipient of the Doctorate of Musical Arts from University of Houston under the direction of Dr. Robert Bates. She also received a Master of Music in Organ Performance from Baylor University, where she was a student of Dr. Joyce Jones. She has studied with a number of noted organ pedagogues, including Siegbert Rampe, Dr. Michael Farris, Dr. Kiyo Watanabe, Dan Miller, Dr. Janette Fishell, Cherry Rhodes, and Jean Boyer in Haarlem, Netherlands. Most notably, Joanna studied in Paris and Toulouse, France with Michel Bouvard, Naji Hakim, and Marie-Claire Alain.
She has been a featured soloist for the Baylor University Organ Conference, as well as appearing several times under the auspices of the American guild of Organists, for the Dallas and Central Texas chapters. Other noted recital venues have included Westminster United Methodist Church, Houston; St. David’s Episcopal Church, Austin; Wesleyan University for the Young Virtuosi Concert Series; First Congregational Church, Los Angeles; Christ Church Cathedral, Indianapolis; National Cathedral, Washington, D.C. and St. Patrick’s Cathedral, New York City. Among her European destinations, are the Musée des Augustins in Toulouse, France, The American Church of Paris and in April, 2006, she made her Paris debut at Olivier Messiaen’s former church, Église de la Trinité.
Joanna also is a concert harpist, and received her MM in harp performance from Baylor University. She has performed as soloist and served as harpist for several ensembles including the Baylor Symphony Orchestra, Waco Chamber Ensemble, Angelettes Harp Ensemble, Ft. Worth Civic Orchestra, University of Houston and the Houston Civic Orchestra.

Leanne joined the staff of Moody Methodist Church in 1997 as part of the administrative team. Prior to her current position she served as Director of Adult Education for several years, during which time she was certified in Christian Education at Perkins School of Theology. She is currently the Director of Communications and Special Events, with oversight of all church communications and coordinating church-wide events such as The Gathering (formerly the Wednesday Night Live program), Women's Ministry, and coordination and participation in worship. She also acts as staff liaison with the Worship Committee's Altar Guild, the Women's Ministry Team and the Communications Ministry Team.

Vivian is the Administrator of the Permanent Endowment Fund of Moody Methodist Church. She comes to this position from a varied background in missions and outreach. Since 1992, she has been the PEF Administrator where she has enjoyed the opportunity to help steward this great financial asset in service to God's mission at home and around the world.

Libbie's Place Adult Day Service

This outreach ministry provides adult day care for Galveston's older adults who have physical, social or cognitive limitations. Support services for their caregivers are also provided. Alice also helps lead the Mature Adult Ministry committee.
